Professorville

Palo Alto's original neighborhood, still lived in the way it was built to be.

In 1889, Stanford's first professors wanted to own their land rather than lease it from the university. So they built here, a short walk from campus.

More than a century later, their houses are still standing and still lived in. Brown shingles. Gambrel roofs. Deep porches under a full tree canopy. The neighborhood has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.

What draws people here isn't size. It's provenance, and the feeling of living somewhere with a story behind it.

What Makes Professorville Different

  • The Architecture. Shingle Style, Colonial Revival and Craftsman homes, many over a century old. Bernard Maybeck designed the Sunbonnet House on Bryant Street.

  • History You Can Walk. Stanford's first physics professor built his towered Queen Anne home on Kingsley Avenue. The founding dean of Stanford Law School lived a few blocks away.

  • The Location. University Avenue, Caltrain and the Stanford campus are all close enough to walk or bike.

Selling in Professorville

Historic homes take a different kind of sale. Buyers here pay for character, and they read the details closely: original woodwork, careful updates, what has been preserved and what hasn't.

My job is to know which details buyers will pay for, prepare the home to show them, and price it with numbers that back it up. Then I keep you updated every week until it closes.
